In a concerted effort to enhance agricultural sustainability and equip local farmers with climate-smart techniques, the Simiyu Climate Resilience Project (SCRP), in collaboration with various partners, is spearheading Climate Smart Agriculture in the Simiyu Region.
The recent inception workshop on Climate Smart Agriculture Practices (CSAP) held on the 23rd of November, 2023, at Mlashi Hotel in Bariadi in Simiyu, Tanzania, marked a pivotal moment in this endeavor.
Organized and facilitated by the Twins Agrovet NGO, the workshop was attended by key stakeholders from Local Government Authorities (LGAs), the Project Management Unit (PMU), Implementing Consultants (IC), and other pertinent entities.
The primary objective of the inception workshop was to deliberate on the proposed methodology, for implementation of “Farmer Field Schools (FFS),” and to outline the 18-month implementation plan for the project.
Additionally, the workshop aimed to clarify to stakeholders the intended meaning of the Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) practices earmarked for promotion and training among farmers. Climate Smart Agriculture practices notably include utilizing resilient crop seeds and the Ngitili system.
The overarching goal of the Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) Practices project which will be implemented in the five districts within the Simiyu region is to bolster community resilience against climate shocks and stressors.
